How to file tax extensions in Connecticut

The Constitution State will automatically grant you a six-month extension of time to file if you have requested a Federal income tax extension and you owe no state income tax for that year.

If you do owe state income tax, it must be paid by the original filing deadline whether or not you obtain an extension.

Connecticut Tax Form CT-1040 EXT (Application for Extension of Time to File Connecticut Income Tax Return for Individuals) can be used to request a tax extension and pay any tax due.

If you are sending Form CT-1040 EXT with payment, mail it to:
Department of Revenue Services, PO Box 2977, Hartford, CT  06104-2977

If you are mailing Form CT-1040 without payment, send it to:
Department of Revenue Services, PO Box 2976, Hartford, CT  06104-2976
