IRS Tax Brackets & Deduction Amounts for Tax Year 2019

This article gives you the tax rates and related numbers that you will need to prepare your 2019 income tax return. In general, 2019 personal income tax returns are due by Monday, April 15, 2020.

The federal tax brackets are broken down into seven taxable incomes and filing status. The percentages are: 10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32%, 35% and 37%.

It is good to remember that moving up into a higher tax bracket does not mean that all of your income will be taxes at the higher rate. In actuality only the money that is earned within a particular bracket is subject to the corresponding rate. Please see the table below.

2019 Federal Tax Deductions

There are two main types of tax deductions for 2019 and they are categorized as standard deductions and itemized deductions. The IRS allows you to claim one type of deduction, but you cannot claim both. The deductions are subtracted from your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) and means they lower your taxable income.

There is an additional deduction for people over the age of 65 and for those who are blind.
