US Enrolled Agent Information

An enrolled agent is a person hat can represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). To become an enrolled agent, one must either pass a 3-part IRS examination about tax returns, or have past experience as an IRS employee. The enrolled agent status is the highest designation awarded by the IRS.
Once being awarded the enrolled agent status, the individual must adhere to ethical standards in representation, and complete 72 hours of continuous education every 3 years.
Like attorneys an certified public accountants (CPAs), enrolled agents have unlimited practice rights, meaning they have no restrictions as to which taxpayers they can represent, which types of tax issues they handle, or which IRS offices they can present clients before.
