Louisiana State Tax ― Individual Income Tax

The individual income tax rates for Louisiana are as follows (for single, married filing separate, and head of household filers):

  • 2% on the first $12,500 of taxable income
  • 4% on taxable income between $12,501 and $50,000
  • 6% on taxable income of $50,001 or more

For married filing jointly and qualified surviving spouse filers, the income brackets are:

  • 2% on the first $25,000 of taxable income
  • 4% on taxable income between $25,001 and $100,000
  • 6% on taxable income of $100,001 or more

Louisiana State Tax ― Corporate Tax

The corporate income tax is imposed on the net income of all corporations deriving income from Louisiana sources, at the following rates:

  • 4% on the first $25,000 of net income
  • 5% on net income between $25,001 and $50,000
  • 6% on net income between $50,001 and $100,000
  • 7% on net income between $100,001 and $200,000
  • 8% on net income of $200,000 or more

The corporate franchise tax is imposed on corporations doing business in Louisiana. The rates are $1.50 for each $1,000 (up to $300,000) of capital employed in Louisiana, and $3 for each additional $1,000 of capital over $300,000. The minimum tax is $10 per year.

Louisiana State Tax ― Sales & Use Tax

Louisiana’s sales tax rate is 4% ― which consists of a 3.97% state tax and a 0.03% Louisiana Tourism Promotion District sales tax. The consumer use tax is a component of the sales tax and it applies to goods purchased out-of-state and used in Louisiana, when proper sales tax was not charged.

Louisiana State Tax ― Property Tax

Property tax is an “ad valorem” tax (meaning “according to value”) levied by local governments. Tax assessors establish the value of property based on a percentage of its fair market value. Revenue from property taxes helps fund public services.
